2024 Wrap-up: A Year of Growth and Success

As the year comes to a close, we are looking back on all we have accomplished together. None of this would be possible without support of our donors and partner organizations. Please consider making a year-end donation.

Organizational Growth

Welcoming New Board Members

We’re thrilled to have three exceptional new members on our Board of Directors: Dr. Parfait Uwaliraye, Dr. Laura Cassidy, and Ms. Radegonde Ndejuru. Each brings valuable expertise and a passion for advancing quality health care.

Expanding Our Team

This year, we added talented individuals to our team, including an IT and Communications Specialist, a Development and Communication Coordinator, and two new interns supporting our administration, programs, and monitoring & evaluation efforts.

Strengthening Partnerships

We were honored to have hosted visits from our esteemed partners, including representatives from the Pfizer Foundation, SANOFI Global Health Unit, Dovetail Impact Foundation, Izumi Foundation, Novartis, Champion of Humanity Group, and other friends of Health Builders. Their insights and collaboration fuel our mission!

Successful Programs

In partnership with the Rwanda Ministry of Health (MOH), the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), and our other supporters, we have achieved significant milestones this year, including:

Scaling-up Digital Health Systems

This year, in collaboration with the Rwanda Ministry of Health, we deployed the upgraded Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system in Rulindo District across all health centers. Using digital records instead of hand-written paper records will improve patient outcomes through better data management and clinical decision-making and facilitate efficient health care delivery via a centralized system.

We also piloted the new Community Electronic Medical Record system (cEMR) in Nyabihu District, enabling community health workers (CHWs) to track and manage health data at the village level. Read that story here >>

Enhancing Maternal and Child Health Care

In 2024, we expanded the ultrasound services program to an additional 25 health care centers, effectively covering all 54 health centers supported by Health Builders in Nyabihu, Rulindo, and Rwamagana districts, improving access to critical obstetrical care.

Community Screenings for Non-Communicable Diseases

In Nyabihu District, Health Builders:

  • Trained 1,876 CHWs to screen for cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension and diabetes

  • Provided 469 villages with screening kits (one per village)

  • Provided 938 smartphones (two per village) to facilitate data collection and patient education

As a result, over 150,000 people were tested and 2,046 new cases were identified and enrolled in the appropriate treatment and follow-up program. Read more >>

At Health Builders, we are dedicated to increasing access to quality, life-saving care in rural Rwanda. A critical component of our work is sustainability, ensuring that our work will benefit generations to come. Our donors and supporters are directly connected to this impact. Thank you to all who have made 2024 such an incredible success.
