Champion Humanity Group Visits Rugerero Health Center
On May 25, 2024, representatives of Champion Humanity Group received a warm and vibrant welcome at Rugerero Health Center. Community Health Workers expressed their gratitude through traditional dances, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity.
Health Center Manager Mr. Callixte Habimana presented an enlightening overview of the trends in improvement of care access and quality indicators in the sector since the health center's establishment. He highlighted the significant efforts made in health care delivery, presenting moving statistics and success stories that underscored the health center's impact on the community's well-being.
Following the presentation, local resident Ms. Vestine Mukandayisenga spoke on behalf of the community. She recounted the hardships faced by the community before the health center was established. People had to endure long journeys to neighboring sectors to access health care services. Even vulnerable individuals like pregnant women often had to walk for more than two hours.
Vestine's story highlighted the transformative impact of the Rugerero Health Center, eliminating home deliveries in the sector and significantly improving health outcomes for mothers and children. She expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of Rwanda for their exceptional collaboration, acknowledging their pivotal role in making the health center a reality.
Tommy Krulis spoke on behalf of Champion Humanity Group. He funded an initiative to paint murals on the walls of health centers built by Health Builders. Each mural, including the ones shown here in Rugerero, depicts health education messages. Tommy, who supports our philanthropic approach, reminded everyone that the health center was established to uphold the principle that health care is a human right.
He acknowledged the significant progress we have made, and emphasized the ongoing need for comprehensive health care in Rwanda. Tommy welcomed anyone interested in joining the community in charitable actions, underlining the crucial need for continued support. Through collaboration, everyone can make a difference.
Ms. Pacifique Ishimwe, District Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in Rubavu District, also spoke on behalf of local leadership. She expressed deep gratitude for the health center's critical role during the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks. She also highlighted how the facility served as a treatment center during those crises, providing essential services and contributing to advancing health care quality in the district. She concluded by calling for more support from Health Builders, recognizing the partnership's vital contributions to the district's healthcare system.
This visit was a testament to the power of community engagement, collaboration, and dedicated leadership. It reminded visitors of the transformative impact of accessible health care and the ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for all. The community's testimonies and gratitude underlined the importance of our work. It was a reminder that while the journey is long, every step forward brings hope and healing to those in need.
