Building Stronger Health Centers: Rulindo District Action Plan Workshop

In Rulindo District, several health centers have recently appointed new managers and accountants. Many of these leaders are still finding their footing in these roles and face challenges due to a lack of experience and formal training in planning and budgeting. This creates a significant gap that needs urgent attention.
By providing focused support to these health facilities, we aim to empower them to run efficiently and meet the health care needs of their communities. Investing in staff development in these areas is key to building a responsive and effective health care system.
Hosting a Workshop to Strengthen Planning Skills
From January 6-10, 2025, Rutongo and Kinihira Hospitals hosted a critical workshop at the Musanze Fatima Hotel. The event brought together health center managers, accountants, and staff members from across Rulindo District to revise action plans for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Building on insights gained from six months of budget execution and action planning, the workshop provided an opportunity to review and refine strategies for the remainder of the year.
One key takeaway from the workshop was the importance of creating a joint action plan. Such a plan would serve as a tool for better monitoring of the activities already outlined in the 2024-2025 action plan, ensuring that goals are met and resources are used effectively.
Collaborating to Improve Health Care Management
A diverse team played a crucial role in facilitating the workshop. Representatives from each hospital service, health center managers, accountants, and Health Builders staff worked together to organize and lead activities. Their collective expertise enabled a thorough analysis of community health care needs and ensured that planning was inclusive and well-rounded.
Health Builders, in particular, stood out as a key resource throughout the process. Our team provided hands-on coaching and mentoring to health center managers and accountants, guiding them through the use of operational plan templates, budget allocation strategies, and monitoring and evaluation processes. This support not only helped improve planning and budgeting skills but also ensured that health center staff were equipped to prioritize activities that best addressed the needs of their local communities.
