As of June 2022, Rugerero Health Center is fulfilling its original purpose, to serve all the population of Rugerero Sector

Failure to timely diagnose and respond to complications of pregnancy and childbirth, unwanted pregnancies, and lack of access to quality healthcare services and life-saving commodities are some of the leading causes of preventable maternal, neonatal and child deaths in Rwanda.

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are a critical part of Rwanda's approach to health care delivery. Being closer to the community, CHWs perform an essential role in reducing maternal and child mortality in rural Rwanda.

Health Builders' efforts to assist in the strengthening of the health system are in line with the Ministry of Health's five risk areas for accrediting health centers.

Health Builders has built seven health centers from the ground up - with many of the paid workers being women from the local community. The health centers provide comprehensive health care to 250,000 people formerly without it.

The 2050 Sustainable Development Goal is to provide 1,600 health posts by 2050, compared to just under 500 today.

Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, Health Builders staff continues our work to support health centers in rural Rwanda in a number of ways. At the end of November, Health Builders hosted a training to improve infection prevention and control practices for 16 health centers in northwestern Rwanda.
