Partnerships Ensuring Sustainability
Health Builders is reaching more people than ever thanks to the generosity and collaboration of our supporters and partners.
We are stronger together. This is the phrase we often think of in regard to the special partnerships that are driving Health Builders’ impact across rural Rwanda.
With the invaluable help of our supporters and partners who provide the essential financial, strategic, and creative power, we are driven toward our lofty goal. This goal is to ensure that every single person in rural Rwanda has access to quality, safe health care.
Here are just a few recent highlights that demonstrate how our partners are helping us move towards this.
Sanofi Partnership: Combatting Hypertension & Diabetes
Despite being treatable, the rates of undiagnosed hypertension and diabetes continue to dramatically rise in Rwanda. These diseases cause a high number of preventable deaths. To raise awareness and address this serious issue head on, Health Builders is partnering with Sanofi for a two year project starting September 2023.
Earlier this year, a team from Sanofi Global Health Unit visited Health Builders to finalize the partnership. The group included Dr. Jebson Zingwari, Access Lead-Africa, and Dr. Nondumiso Makhunga-Stevenson, Regional Medical Lead: English Speaking Africa & Asia.
Together, we are enhancing the community awareness and screening process. Many more patients are now being enrolled for critically needed hypertension and diabetes care. We are improving the capacity of health centers’ staff and community health workers (CHWs) to deal with these rapidly emerging public health problems. This project wouldn’t be possible without the generous funding and innovation of Sanofi and close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Center.
Key Supporter Visits & Events
Health Builders staff are always thrilled to welcome supporters to our headquarters in Kigali. These visits are a chance for us to reinforce our relationship and celebrate all we have accomplished together.
FACILITIES & EQUIPMENT PARTNER VISITS
In July, we were thrilled that John Gould (Executive Director and Founder of Gould Family Foundation) and Lars-eric Rödén (Executive Director of T&J Meyer Family Foundation) had an opportunity to visit Nkanga, one of the three health posts that had just opened.
With the help of T&J Meyer Family Foundation and Gould Family Foundation, Health Builders has been able to build facilities that make it easier for rural Rwandans to access quality health care.
In the past, the T&J Meyer Family Foundation has supported the construction of three state-of-the-art health centers of Nyarugenge, Kintobo and Rugerero. Gould Family Foundation continues to support Health Builders by donating needed medical equipment and by providing the funding for the services of a Biomedical Technician.
SUPPORT OF OUR CORE WORK PARTNER
For the past two years, Dovetail Impact Organization has provided critically needed unrestricted funding to Health Builders. This means that the support they provide is not earmarked for any particular project and can be put toward the greatest need. This type of funding is essential to our organization because it allows us to support operations and our core mission work of training and mentoring.
Hillary Omala from Dovetail visited Health Builders to meet with our management team and speak about the partnership. He also visited Muyumbu, one of the health centers in Rwamagana supported by Health Builders. His guidance is invaluable to the work of strengthening health care in rural Rwanda.
PARTNER SPECIAL WORKSHOP ON OBSTETRIC ULTRASOUND PROGRAM
Another critical partner of Health Builders is the DAK Foundation. In addition to donating obstetric ultrasound machines and other equipment, DAK Foundation also hosted a highly impactful workshop in July at the Health Builders office for our team and three other organizations. The workshop was about the Task Shifting Ultrasound Training Program for Midwives in Basic Obstetric Care.
Attendees had a chance to learn best practices and brainstorm solutions to common challenges together. As a part of the workshop, Health Builders also invited a local nurse and midwife to share their experiences on behalf of the trained health care providers who use the ultrasound machines at health centers.
We are so grateful to the DAK Foundation for partnering with us for this workshop! We walked away with endless key takeaways and future program opportunities that we will share in the future.
Stronger Together
In order to make the impact that we want to make in Rwanda now and for many years to come, we are looking to work closely with other individuals and organizations that share our goals. We are forever thankful to our partners and for the collaborative approach we take to working together.
