Health Builders' Board of Directors Gathers in Rwanda

For the first time in two years, the Health Builders Board of Directors and staff were finally able to meet in person.

The in-country Board meeting is a once a year opportunity to discuss strategic plans as well as witness, first-hand, the impact of Health Builders' work in local communities. In addition, the staff and the Board members welcomed the chance to get to know each other. The experience serves to reinforce the commitment of the volunteer Board members to improve access to quality health care in Rwanda.

The Board members visited the Rulindo District with Health Builders' Management Advisor, Elias Sebutare, and the district's officials. They interacted with the health centers' staff and the community health workers (CHWs).

They also visited a health post under construction which is part of the ongoing "Ubugingo” health post, a pilot project being implemented by Health Builders in this very remote area in the Cyinzuzi Sector, where the closest center is eight kilometers away and transport is very limited.In addition, the Board members visited the Mwulire Health Center which is under construction and will be the 8t health center built by Health Builders, in partnership with Rwamagana District, Pace Family Foundation, Engalynx and Better World Rwanda. It was also an opportunity to visit the work done by the primary health care centers and the CHWs. They were warmly welcomed by the CHWs in Ruhunda Health Center's catchment area. The visit coincided with an exhibition presented by district partners, where Health Builders' stand was the most visited as it was providing screening for diabetes and hypertension. This is part of Health Builders' initiative for early detection and management of non-communicable diseases to prevent premature death due to these conditions. The Health Builders staff appreciated the opportunity to share the successes and challenges of their daily work with their supporters. ‍
